How much is membership?

You're very welcome to come along for a few free sessions to try things out. It's a great opportunity to play some games, meet our members, and see if Rushden Chess Club feels like the right fit for you there’s no pressure to commit right away.

If you choose to join, the annual membership fee is £50 for adults and £15 for juniors, covering the period from September to September. We also offer a reduced rate if you join later in the year.

For those interested in playing in competitive matches, you'll also need to register with the optional English Chess Federation (ECF) membership at the Bronze level. This costs an additional £20 per year for adults and £6 for juniors. However, juniors enjoy their first year of ECF membership completely free.

Do I need to know how to play chess before I join?

You don’t need to know how to play chess to join a chess club! We welcome complete beginners and are happy to teach you the basics. It’s a great way to learn the game in a friendly, supportive environment just come along and give it a try!

Do you run club competitions?

We run several club competitions throughout the year, including fun rapid play events and more serious internal tournaments. They’re a great way to test your skills, meet other members, and enjoy friendly competition. All levels are welcome to take part it's all about learning and having a good time!

Are you involved in any interclub competitions?

We play interclub matches in the Northamptonshire Silver King League, with both an A and a B team representing the club. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy competitive chess, improve your game, and meet players from other clubs in the area. All interested members are welcome to get involved!
